Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility is very important to Kolak.

As an organisation, we ensure that we continually engage all of our stakeholders from customers, employees and suppliers to neighbouring residents and businesses.

We also understand the need to safeguard the environment and carefully configure working practices to minimise our carbon footprint and environmental impact. The unique KoGreen program meanwhile underpins our business and helps us operate in the most energy efficient way.

In 2011 Kolak Snack Foods installed a pollution control system which keeps the steam generated by the factory totally odour free.

In 2013, we invested £300,000 on enhancing our effluent plant whilst environmentally friendly technology and values are embedded into the very fabric of our premises. Waste reduction plans, energy efficient heat exchangers and lighting and a new emission-cutting odour control system are among our other recent green initiatives.

Furthermore, Kolak is an ethically managed business. Sedex, the organisation responsible for enabling supply chains to become more ethical and sustainable, independently assesses our internal standards and awarded us a Higher Grade rating upon completion of their 2013 audit. 
 Company Statement for Anti-Slavery Policy
This statement sets out Kolak’s actions to understand all potential modern slavery risks related to its business and to put in place steps that are aimed at ensuring that there is no slavery or human trafficking in its own business and its supply chains. The organisation is committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities, and to ensuring its supply chains are free from slavery and human trafficking. This statement relates to actions and activities during the financial year October 2016– September 2017. 

Scope of Statement

This statement covers the activities of Kolak Snack Foods Ltd which covers all its production facilities in Northwest London.
The company produces Crisps and Snacks for all the major multiples. Responsibility for the organisations anti-slavery initiatives is as follows:-
•    Modern Slavery statement update: The Board of Directors are responsible for ensuring the statement is up to date, and accurately reflects the organisations actions and initiatives to tackle slavery and human trafficking;
•    Policies: The HR Team are responsible for introducing policies and reviewing the process by which they are developed;
 The HR team Facilitate training and ensure all new colleagues have proof and legal documentation to allow them to work for the Company
Relevant Policies 

The organisation operates the following policies that describe its approach to the identification of modern slavery risks and steps to be taken to prevent slavery and human trafficking in its operations: 
•    Ethical Policy: The organisation’s ethical policy demonstrates the company’s commitment to being fair and just in dealings, contracts, and agreements with employees, agency workers, contracted workers, suppliers and customers. 
Due Diligence 

The organisation undertakes due diligence when considering taking on new suppliers, and regularly reviews its existing suppliers. The organisation’s due diligence and reviews include: 
•    Mapping the supply chain broadly to assess particular product or geographical risks of modern slavery and human trafficking;
•    Evaluating the modern slavery and human trafficking risks of each new supplier; 
•    Reviewing on a regular basis all aspects of the supply chain based on the supply chain mapping and supplier approval and monitoring procedure;
•    Using Sedex, where suppliers can be checked for their labour standards, compliance in general, and modern slavery and human trafficking in particular. Suppliers are requested to be on Sedex and provide a link to their Ethical SAQ;
•    Invoking sanctions against suppliers that fail to improve their performance in line with an action plan or seriously violate our supplier code of conduct, including the termination of the business relationship.
